Introducing Our Newest Course…

The Bath Explorer Course is a 2½ hour walking tour focused on getting great photos of Bath’s historic sights.  This course happens once a week from April to September.

We will cover a number of essential photographic techniques including how meters work, exposure modes, the right choice of lens and depth of field.  We will also look at the rules of composition, the principles of harmony and the best choice of viewpoint.

This bracing informative walk will take us past Bath’s most beautiful sights.  Everyone will have the opportunity to record these for posterity or their holiday album.

Sensible shoes and clothing are important, and your camera (any camera!) is essential.  Price: £35.  The course meets every Thursday at 4:00pm from April to September outside Bath’s Tourist Information Centre.  Call 01225 483151 to book your place!  Booking is essential.  Ten delegates maximum.

Visit Bath Photography Competition

The City of Bath’s official tourism website is running a photography competition.  Its open to anyone that “Likes” the Visit Bath Facebook page.  First prize is a two-night stay at the Royal Crescent Hotel.  Second prize is one of our brand new 2½ hour Bath Explorer Courses.  This course is not even available to the public yet and is a great way to see Bath from a photographers point of view.  For more details about the competition go to the Visit Bath website or their facebook page.  And good luck.

See our ads in the current issues of Digital Photo magazine and Amateur Photographer as we push to get great attendee numbers for this summer’s courses.  There are still places available on nearly all our courses this year!  And don’t forget, gift vouchers for our photographic courses make a great and unique gift option.

First Location Course of 2011

The first Location Photography Course of the year was held last Thursday.  On what turned out to be a bitterly cold day, Neill and the attendees braved the elements - with admittedly a couple of stops for coffee - and got to see some of Bath’s most interesting angles.  Thanks to all those that came.

After Christmas and New Year…

Perhaps you were given a super new high-tech (but confusing) DSLR for Christmas.  Perhaps you’ve made a New Year’s resolution to improve your photography skills.  Well, at Spirit Courses we’re here to help!

Our Location Photography Course in Bath is perfect for anyone wishing to get to grips with their DSLR.  Photography is fun, even when you let the camera do all the work for you, but when you are confident enough to make the creative decisions yourself it can become the most rewarding and enjoyable of hobbies.  That’s what our Location Course is designed for: we want you to be comfortable controlling your DSLR: to know how the light meter works and to understand the relationship between ISO, aperture and shutter speed.

If you’re comfortable with your camera but could do with some help with your compositional techniques, the course also looks closely at understanding good viewpoints and using your eye to see and take better photos.  Plus, on this course you get to explore one of Europe’s most beautiful cities with Neill Menneer, who not only knows photography inside and out but also knows Bath like the back of his hand.

Go to our website to learn more.  We’re taking bookings for all course dates in 2011.  If you just can’t wait until later in the year, the first Location Course is on the 27th of January!

Gift Vouchers for Christmas

Are you still searching for the perfect Christmas Present for the aspiring photographer in your life?  What about a Spirit Photographic Course?  Gift vouchers are available for all three of our courses and they can be used for any of the course dates in 2011.

Beginner and intermediate standard photographers will enjoy our Location Course in Bath, which also includes a bit of a guided tour.  It covers compositional techniques as well as camera control.

Intermediate level photographers would also get a lot out of the Portrait Course, which is held in our brilliant studio in Bath.  Lighting and posing your subjects to get the most flattering portraits is the main focus of this course.

The Photoshop Course is for anyone wishing to get more out of Adobe’s industry leading photo-editing software and is also held in our studio.

I learned more than I could have imagined and I would definitely recommend it to others.

Since the course, I use my camera in a completely different way and already take much better photos as a result.
